Emmy's first Thanksgiving

Emmy's first virus :-(

Emmy's first Thanksgiving didn't start out quite the way I'd imagined... Last Tuesday right around 3pm I got a text from Emmy's daycare saying she had woken up from her afternoon nap with a fever of 102. Luckily it was the end of my work day, and I had the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving, so I headed over to get my sick little bean & took her to the doctors. She still had a 101 fever at 5:45 when we finally saw the doctor, and we went home with a "virus" diagnosis. I started her on a Tylenol/Advil regimen to keep the fever down,  fed her, bathed her & put her to bed. She actually ate ok & slept pretty well, but the next morning she still had a fever around 99-100. Dan worked from home on Wednesday to help out with our sick peanut. She was pretty fussy all morning, but by late afternoon she was starting to seem like her "normal" self, and since the weather was so nice we decided to take a walk & get her some sunshine & fresh air...

Some smiles late Wednesday afternoon...

This may be the only rotary phone Emmy ever sees!

Getting a little sunshine & fresh air to wash the germs away!

...however when we got home from our walk Emmy started to get fussy again. She didn't eat great for dinner, so we had a quick bath & put her to bed. We really thought we might be out of the woods, but then she woke up crying at 5:30am Thanksgiving morning and her fever was back up again. I stripped her down to her onesie and nursed her, which seemed to help calm her down & make her more comfortable  and then she slept for another hour. She was still not feeling good when she woke up, and we had a pretty tough day with our sick little monkey. She still played a little bit, and we did have some moments without tears here & there...

Emmy enjoyed watching the parade & waving "hi" to everyone!

A break in the tears on Thanksgiving day

We were bummed to miss seeing our family on Thanksgiving, and to miss all the turkey! But Dan made a run up to Papa Joe's and got us 2 turkey dinners, which we actually were able to eat while Emmy was napping, but of course it wasn't as good as homemade!

Emmy finally started to seem like she was feeling better & was acting more like herself after her 3rd nap of the day, which by the way she hasn't taken 3 naps a day in over 2 months! We kept up the Tylenol/Advil regimen until she went to bed Thursday, and she seemed to actually get some good sleep Thursday night. She woke up Friday again at 5:30am, and cried out a little bit, but she put herself back to sleep & slept until 9am! I think those last few hours of sleep helped her finally kick that virus out of her system, and she actually woke up smiling & saying "hi"! We were so relieved to see our little bean was finally feeling better! We took it easy Friday & stayed home all day, playing & snuggling with our peanut as her little body recovered from being sick.

Eating lunch by the windows to catch the first glimpse of snow falling!

Yay! Someone's feeling better!

Emmy's favorite new game is falling on pillows!!

On Saturday we headed out to Dan's parents house to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families. Emmy was definitely back to 100% and really enjoyed seeing her grandparents and her uncles! She missed seeing her Uncle David & Auntie Jen though! Deanna's leftovers thanksgiving dinner was delicious, and we had a really nice time celebrating & spending time with our families!!

  1. I'm so happy to hear that Emmy is feeling better! I know how hard it is to see our little ones sick like that. You guys are such great parents! It's funny to see pictures of that last outfit; Emma has the short sleeve version. :)
