10 months old!

Emmy has had a pretty big week leading up to her 10 month birthday!! It started last Saturday night when she had her first sleepover at Grandma & Grandpa Smith's! She was a perfect house guest; she went to church with them, she slept and ate great, and she had tons of fun!! While Emmy was having her sleepover, Dan & I had a mini "staycation" downtown at the MGM Grand. We started by relaxing by the pool, then we had a couples massage, and we capped it off with a delicious dinner at the in-house Wolfgang Puck Italian restaurant. We grabbed breakfast & did a tour of Indian Village (I've never been there before!) the next morning before picking up our little bean! She was very excited to see us, and was a little bit clingy for awhile, but all in all it was a good experience!! We spent the rest of Sunday relaxing at home before heading out for Emmy's first swimming class!!

Emmy's first swim class!

We signed up for a group swim class through Troy parks & rec with 6 of the families from our Beaumont parenting group, and it's a lot of fun to do the class with a bunch of Emmy's friends! Emmy wasn't so sure about the pool when we first got in, she's only been in a "big" pool once or twice so far, but she warmed up to it pretty quickly. The water was so warm it felt like a bath, and there are tons of bath toys floating around the pool for the kids to play with, so that definitely helps! The only bad part of it was the part where I tried putting her underwater... yes that's right, they have you try putting your baby underwater... you're supposed to blow really hard in their face so they stop breathing then you dunk them super fast... the first time we did it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't awesome either. The second time, however, was absolutely awful! Emmy came up gasping, then when she finally caught her breath she SCREAMED!! She was pretty upset... but she did recover for the rest of class. Here's a few pictures from our first two classes:

During this past week I had to work late a couple of nights, so Grandma Deanna was kind enough to pick Emmy up from daycare and bring her home. Emmy loved spending time with her, and even treated her to a preview of her newest skill: standing up from seated without pulling herself up! I haven't yet had the pleasure of witnessing this new talent, but Dan saw her do it this weekend, and apparently she just all of a sudden pops up!! Grandma Deanna was very excited, and a little nervous, to see this new skill! I'm anxiously awaiting my turn to see it as well :-)

10 months old! And very wiggly - this was the best
picture I could get of her!!

This past weekend we celebrated Emmy's 10 month birthday! I cannot believe she's already 10 months old! She is honestly just the most amazing little girl! We are so in love with her, and feel so unbelievably blessed to have her in our lives! Here's a snapshot of what Emmy's like at 10 months old:

Amazed by the street sweeper!

I didn't measure her to see how much she's grown since last month when we went to the doctors, but I can't imagine she's gained more than a pound, putting her around 18lbs. She's still wearing mostly 9 months and 6-12 months clothes. She's sleeping 12 hours through the night, going to bed about 7pm and waking up around 7am! On the weekends she sometimes stays up later & sleeps in a little bit later, which is amazing! She is crawling quickly, pulls up to stand on everything, and will let go & stand unsupported for a few seconds at a time. She's also just this past week, on 2 known occasions, stood up from a seated position without holding on to anything!! She "cruises" along the couch or coffee table, taking steps while holding on, and also moves from couch to table pretty easily now. Emmy plays pat-a-cake, peek-a-boo and "so big"! She loves "anticipation" games, where we chase her or play "I'm gonna get you"! She also recently discovered she loves falling or being "thrown" onto pillows! She is definitely a rough & tumble type of girl!

Emmy loves her jumper!!

Emmy has about 5 words that she says that have meaning: hi, daddy/dada, mama/ma, nana (no) and baba (bottle)! She's also very chatty with lots of other sounds, we only wish we knew what she was telling us most of the time!! She's using the sign for "more", only when she's eating, and usually to tell us she wants more puffs! She also seems to understand the signs for "all done" and "eat", but isn't making them herself yet.  Emmy's very social and says hi & waves, and waves bye bye to everyone we see! She's following a few one-step directions ("come here" and sometimes "stop"), and she definitely understands what "no" means, but most of the time when she knows shes not supposed to do something, she smiles at us, says "nanana" and does it anyways! Emmy expresses her likes by smiling, laughing and vocalizing, and expresses her dislikes by wrinkling her cute little nose, vocalizing or saying "nanana"! She has such a big personality, and is so much fun! We just love our little turkey!

Gobble Gobble! Getting ready for turkey day!
