| 8 Weeks Old! |
I know it conviently rhymes, but things really are going great for us at week 8! Emmy continues to grow in so many ways! Physically she feels bigger almost every morning when I get her out of bed, and she's definitely filling out her 3 month clothes a lot better! She's much more alert for longer during the day, & she's becoming more aware of the things in her world too. Just last week she seemed to discover her reflection in the mobile on her swing, and she really likes looking at her reflection in one of the toys that hangs on her car seat! She also seems to be more aware when a new person starts talking to her. Not new as in she's never met them before, just new as in daddy just came home, or grandma & grandpa are over. Basically its someone besides mommy! But she really stares into our eyes when we talk to her, and is trying hard to talk to us too! She makes all kinds of cooing noises and vowel vocalizations, its so cute and so much fun to hear! Her sleeping has improved a little; she's still sleeping in the "rock & play sleeper" (inclined surface) in our room, but weve been able to get her to sleep by 10 most nights, which is good compared to the 12 or 1am it used to be!! And once she's down, anytime she wakes up I change her, feed her & she goes right back to sleep. I'm going to try again soon, maybe this week, to move her onto a flat surface to sleep, and see if it goes any better this time. We tried to transition her a few weeks back but she kept spitting up, which then woke her up, leading to some really bad sleep for Emmy and mommy! So keep your fingers crossed that it goes better this time!

Last weekend on Friday night grandma & grandpa smith came to hang out with Emmy while mom & dad went out to eat! It was our second time out without her, and while it feels weird to not have her with us, we had a nice time. And we went to daddys favorite: Luxe! On Saturday Emmy went to her first Smith family event: she came with me to Dave & Jens wedding shower, while daddy went golfing for the first time this season! She looked so pretty in a dress Aunt Lisa gave her, and she did a really good job at the shower! Grandpa was there so he helped me a lot with Emmy, giving her a bottle & even getting her to take a little nap! Of course everyone was excited to see & hold Emmy, and she was very tolerant & patient with being passed around! On our way home from the shower we stopped to drop off a gift at my friend Amys house, so she got to meet Emmy for the first time! Saturday night we got dinner, carry out of course, with our friends, and we were all pretty exhausted by our busy day and we actually got Emmy to sleep around 10!

We had am awesome day on Sunday, despite having "sprung" forward! We took Emmy to church for the first time, and she did great! We sat in the cry room, and although she was a little fussy at first, she fell asleep for most of mass! After church emmy & I relaxed at home whole daddy went for a run, then the three of us took a long walk up to Papa Joes to pick up a few things for dinner. It was beautiful out, and we enjoyed being able to grill our dinner on the deck! All that fresh air must've tired Em.j right out bc she slept for most of the afternoon/evening, and was actually asleep by 10 & slept good that night! Daylight savings hit me a little more on Monday, when we slept in a little later than normal, and the day seemed to fly by! But we all enjoy how its lighter later into the evenings now!!

Karsyn slept in the rock n sleep thing too. It was a tough transition to get her on a flat surface. You just have to stick with it. It's hard, but she will learn to like her bed, eventually. I started by putting her in her crib at night, then when she woke up for her feeding I put her into the rock n sleep for the rest of the night. I changed to her crib last for naps. It was a slow transition, but doing it a little at a time didn't seem so traumatizing to her, or me! ;-) Now she sleeps in a pack n play like a rockstar. I seriously thought I was going to have a 6 month old strapped into that rock n sleep thing... ;-) Hugs!- Cherrill
