Day 3: Pool day & Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!

Day 3 started out nice & slow, which was just what we needed! The girls both slept in until about 7:30, and then watched a movie & ate some breakfast in our room. We are pretty spoiled this trip having two rooms - I was able to let Dan sleep a little while longer & still get the girls up & some breakfast going. For these trips we pack a lot of food from home to bring with us - mostly breakfast items that we can eat in the room (cereal, fruit, muffins, hard boiled eggs, etc.) and also lots of snacks & drinks. Our girls are still fairly picky eaters, and they don't want a "hot breakfast" everyday even at home, so eating breakfast out at restaurants just doesn't work out great for us. We let the girls have sugar cereal on vacation (they don't normally get it at home) so they're thrilled to be having lucky charms or cinnamon toast crunch while watching a show when on vacation! It's also a big time saver to just eat breakfast in your room at Disney. It truly is an advantage to get into the parks right when they open at Disney, the wait times for rides just get longer as each day goes on!

We took our time getting up & running today, and Dan even got a little work in, before we headed down to the pool to swim & have lunch. It was pretty hot out and the pool felt great! The Swan & Dolphin have beautiful, family friendly grounds! There's a regular/lap pool near each hotel, and in the middle is their "grotto" pool, which has a waterfall & a small water slide. There's also hot tubs and kiddie pools. There's a basketball court, playground, and even a sandy area with a sea lion statue that squirts water (like a sprinkler), which Cameron loves!! There's a lot to do, even on the days you stay at the hotel! Emmy loves the water slide, but Cameron has yet to give it a try - she keeps telling us she'll do it when she's older ;-) But it's pretty small, and we know she'd love it if she'd give it a try!

We ordered lunch at the pool, then headed back up to the room for a shower & some rest before we got ready for Mickey's not so scary Halloween party! This year our family costume is the Incredibles family, and Emmy said she wanted to be Jack Jack, so I was looking forward to making her hair stand up!! However, once she saw my interpretation (AKA the best I could do) she said no way, and her hair went into a bun. It’s definitely better to have her be happy and comfortable than look like Jack Jack so off we went!

When you buy the halloween party ticket you can get into MK starting at 4pm, even though the party doesn't technically start until 7pm. Party tip - you can make fast passes for rides between 4 & 6pm! You have to schedule your first one starting around 3:30 to fit in all 3, but we were able to do it! Also, at these parties, the ride wait times between 4 & 7 are pretty short, because the guests from the day who aren't staying for the party have to leave by 6pm, so they're on their way out, and the Halloween party doesn't seem to fill up until closer to actual party time.

We started by getting our family picture taken; I’ve learned that if I want to get these nice family pictures from the Disney photographers, we have to do them right away, mainly because of the heat! This picture was the only time you saw us with our masks & the girls gloves on all night!! It’s also a bonus when they have “magic shots”, which the girls love!!

After that our first fast pass for the party was to meet what I thought was the only talking Mickey at Disney - however he apparently stopped talking in April!! #Momfail for telling the girls they would be meeting the real Mickey who could actually talk to them... they took it in stride though, and were still excited to meet him.  For our next fast pass we lucked out with a Disney app glitch - I had originally booked 7 Dwarfs Mine Train for all 4 of us, but then changed it so just Dan & Emmy would go on it, but the app never got rid of the fast pass for all 4 of us - so Emmy & Dan were able to ride it twice, back to back! As you can see from the pictures, Emmy absolutely LOVES this ride!! We were excited to be able to get her on it twice.

Cams & I rode Winnie the Pooh, Tea Cups and Ariel while they were roller coastering, and then we all headed over to Jungle Cruise - another new ride for us! After that we rode Aladdin's Magic Carpets before heading over to Harbour House for dinner. We just did a quick counter service restaurant for dinner so we didn't waste party time at a sit down dining restaurant. After that we headed over to Haunted Mansion, which Cameron has now declared her favorite ride! Then we started the trick or treating! Disney has trick or treat stations set up around the park for the party, and they give you SO much candy!! If you're looking to get a lot of candy at the parties bring a backpack or extra bag to dump your candy into after you fill up; they give you a specific bag to use for trick or treating & it's not that big, but if you dump your candy it'll look like you haven't gotten much yet. We don't do this ourselves but for people who really love their candy it's a good idea!

After a few trick or treat stations we took the girls on Pirates of the Caribbean - another new ride for us! Even though it's a slow boat ride indoors, it's a lot of dark & does have a small drop, similar to the one in Frozen Ever After, and the girls were not fans! But Dan & I enjoyed it, and we achieved our goal of riding new rides this trip! After Pirates, we hit up Aladdin's carpets again before finding a spot for the parade. The girls were super tired & basically asking to go back to the hotel, but we were 15 minutes from the parade starting & knew they'd like it once they saw it... so we were the meanest parents ever & forced them to sit in a stroller to wait for a Disney parade!

Sure enough, once the parade started Emmy was into it, Cams however, fell asleep!! So we headed out of the park before the parade had fully passed us - however since we had a spot at the beginning of the parade route (in Frontierland) the parade was just reaching the front of the park (Main St) by the time we were exiting. We had to wait a little bit for a bus, and didn't get back to our hotel until about 10:30!! We changed our sleepy ladies into pj's & they went right back to sleep! Dan & I weren't too far behind, but showers are necessary after spending any time in the parks! Tomorrow is a non-park day for us, and I think we all need it!!
