I took Emmy's actual birthday off (Thursday January 17th), so her first birthday celebration took place the day before her birthday at daycare! Miss Rita & her buddies wished her a big Happy Birthday as soon as we got to school that day, and they sang & celebrated with applesauce muffins I made for breakfast!

On her actual birthday, I stayed home from work & we had lots of visitors celebrating with us all day long! The first was Grandma Deanna, who came over for a morning play date & brought a few early presents. After that my good friend Laura joined us for lunch & some playtime. Then Uncle David & Auntie Jen came over in the evening for celebrating & dinner!! It was a fun day!
The next day, Friday, Dan, Emmy & I headed up to Frankenmuth for a mini vacation at Zehnders hotel & water park! We arrived midday, and had so much fun in the water park! After a nap for Emmy & daddy, we headed out to dinner, then had a sleepover! We got in another small swim the next morning, before hitting the road & heading back home. It was a perfect mini-vacation & such a fun way to celebrate Emmy's birthday just the 3 of us! Here's some pictures from our trip:
The next day was Emmy's first (yes first as in more than one) 1st birthday party!! Since our house is no mansion, we decided to split up the parties, and have the family over one day & our friends over another. The first party was the family party. Emmy was a superstar for her party! She was not really into her cake, but she did enjoy sharing grandpa's ice cream!! She did good opening her presents, and had fun playing with everyone! Here's some shots from the party:
Thanks to MLK Day, Emmy & I had one more day off together that Monday, so to wrap up her birthday celebration we took a trip to the mall to buy her her first pair of hard-bottomed shoes!! She had SO much fun running around the shoe department at Nordstrom, trying on all the different shoes! We settled on some pink Saucony running shoes, which are very fitting for this busy little girl! I think we may have a future marathoner on our hands!!
One week later, we had Emmy's "friends" birthday party! Again, Emmy was a superstar, and she loved having all of her buddies over!!
And that concludes Emmy's 1 year birthday celebration! Pretty crazy huh? We had so much fun celebrating her amazing first year of life, and can't wait to see what year 2 brings!!
