Emmy at 1!

Even though Emmy's now closer to 13 months than 12, I'm still playing catch up on the blog, so here's a snapshot of what Emmy looks like at 1 year old!!

1 year well visit

1 year well visit

At her 1 year doctor's appointment, Emmy weighed in at 19lb 11oz and 30" long! Her weight is in the 50th percentile, her height is in the 75th percentile, and her head went down from 95th to 85th percentile! The doctor declared her in perfect health and was pretty impressed with her vocabulary (i.e. Emmy crying "all done, all done!" when the doctor was examining her!). Overall Emmy's had a really healthy first year. She only had 1 sickness, which was just a virus at Thanksgiving. She's had a little bit more of the "daycare runny nose" in the past few weeks, but nothing substantial, thankfully!!

Kisses for baby!

My good friend Kim is also using a blog to keep her family & friends updated on her beautiful baby girl Emma, and I was inspired by her recent post to list some of Emmy's "favorite things"!!

Favorite Foods: Pears! Sweet potato fries, noodles, bananas, pizza!

Favorite Drink: Milk and water (but that's really all she's ever had to drink!)

Favorite Toys: Her babies! She has 5+ baby dolls, and she is almost always carrying one around with her

Favorite Books: Brown Bear, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Pajama Time

Favorite Weekend Activity: Having family & friends over to the house. Emmy loves having parties too!

Favorite Words: Mama, Dada, Na (no), Hep (help), open, all done

Favorite Songs: The Wheels on the Bus & Happy Birthday!

Emmy's Milestones

Walking! Emmy is a confident walker, and at times she moves so fast it almost seems like she's running! Walking has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for Emmy, and she has taken ownership over as much of the house as we give her access to! Emmy has also gotten good at climbing up the stairs, and often requests to go "up, up!"

Talking! Emmy is a chatty girl! Here's a list of words she uses with meaning to communicate:
Mama
Dada
Papa (grandpa)
Maamaw (grandma)
Hi
Bye-bye
Open
Hep (help)
All Done
Moa (more)
Na (no)
Ya (yes)
Baby
Paa (pears)
Chhee (cheese)
nana (banana)
pa-pa (pacifier)
Uh-oh
Nii-nii (night night)
Up
Dow (down)
Ree-ree (Miss Rita)
Ah-yah (Claudia, her friend at daycare)
Ja-son (Jackson, another friend at daycare)

In addition to words Emmy also knows a few different animal noises! She knows an owl says "hoo hoo", doggy says "woof woof", cow says "moo", and monkey says "ahh ahh". Receptively she's good at following directions, and usually listens to what we say/tell her to do. The times when she doesn't, I think it's more "strong will" taking over than not understanding :-)

Eating! Emmy is a really good eater!! She will try pretty much anything we put in front of her, and she spits it right back out when she doesn't like it! She's now officially done with formula and drinks whole milk in her bottles and with her meals. We've cut out the two mid-day bottles and substituted them with milk cups. She's still getting a bottle in the morning and before bed, and I'm not quite sure when/how we'll be getting rid of those!! Emmy is also starting to use a fork! She's not quite able to spear the food on her own yet, but she tries! And if I put the food on the fork for her, she easily puts it in her mouth!

Sleeping! Emmy is still sleeping great at night! She goes to bed around 6:30 or 7 and sleeps 12 hours through the night! She occasionally wakes & may cry out, but she finds her pacifiers & puts herself back to sleep. I think she's in the process of getting rid of her morning nap... some days at daycare she takes a half hour nap in the morning, but most days she doesn't actually fall asleep. Then she takes a big 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. However, at home on the weekends is a different story! We've been trying to figure out whether or not to give her the morning nap here, some days she takes it, some days she doesn't. But we'll figure it out, at least it's not affecting her nighttime sleep!

Playing! At home she loves playing with musical toys, her baby dolls, her kitchen, and reading books! At daycare, they tell me she loves riding the rocking horse, playing in the play house, and playing with trucks & the "big boys"! Apparently she can "hold her own", and doesn't let the big boys take toys away from her!! That's my girl!! :-) She's also really enjoying coloring lately, both at daycare & at home. I think this is another thing she picked up from the "big kids" at daycare!

Emmy is a very social girl and loves being around & playing with other kids. She especially loves "big kids", like her BFF Brooke! I really think her admiration for older kids is what has helped her to walk & talk so well already.

We feel so blessed to have such an amazing daughter, and we just love her to pieces!!

  1. I love that video. It's funny how they can use utensils at this age, but bottom line is, if they're hungry it's just faster to use their hands. Emma is the same way. Emmy is too cute. I also loved reading the list of words and Emmy's version of them. She is a great talker; she's social like her mama! We can't wait to see you guys again soon. We are thinking a trip in April is in order.
